Managerial Routines

1) Equipment
-
Basketballs may be obtained from the desiganted racks
when the teacher instructs to get a ball. When asked to put balls
away they must be placed back on the racks. There is no throwing
or kicking of the basketballs.
-
Pinnies are contained in a bag and distributed by the
teacher.
-
Cones are stored in an equipment room and may be set up
before class or during. Can use designated students (preferrably
non-participating students) to set up cones and/or collect them.
-
Students are asked to get their own ball or the teacher/T.A.
distributes a ball to each team.
-
A T.A. assists in the set up of stations (i.e. circuit)
and/or playing areas.
2) Procedures
-
Students have 10 minutes at the start of class to get
changed and shoot the ball around.
-
The use of a whistle is the signal for the students to
stop what they are doing and hold the balls.
-
After 10 minutes the class is brought in and the teacher
explains what the activity is for that day and then introduces the warm
up.
-
If a student gets hurt or injured they are allowed one
other student to accompany them to the first aid office or to get ice,
etc.
-
Students have 10 minutes at the end of class to get changed
and then report back to the teacher for attendance and participation marks.
Closure is also done at this time and consists of some kind of cognitive
aspect i.e. asking questions about the different technique cues the students
learned that day.
-
Participation marks are given for each class and is out
of 5 marks.
3) Groupings
-
Teachers choice depending on the activity that day
- individual
- partners - in order to change partners have each pair number off
as one and two, then designate either number to move one pair to
the left or right
- groups of 3 or more - teacher numbers off the students to create teams
or
groups
4) Classroom rules
-
The students may go to the bathroom after they have received
permission from the teacher.
-
There is no gum chewing during Physical Education for
safety reasons.
-
Appropriate gym strip must be worn at all times.
What the student wore to school that day is not considered gym strip even
if it consists of shorts, t-shirt and runners. If a student does
not have proper strip they lose their participation marks for that class.
